Edgy. 22 tattoos. 11 piercings. Urban-tinged pop. Meet Jillea – the 21-year-old Toronto-based artist, who not only has outstanding vocals, but is also involved in the songwriting and production of her upcoming EP. After taking home first place in Slaight Music’s 2013 ‘It’s Your Shot’ competition, a songwriting and artistic development competitions for emerging artists, Jillea dropped out of college to pursue her music career. “Shattered” is the same song that she was awarded first place for, and it now comes with a music video! She captured Slaight Music’s ear with the track & we’re sure she’ll captures yours too. “I like to show every side of me in my music,” Jillea explains. “So there’s a confident side, a cockiness, just as there is to everybody and that comes through in ‘Goddess,’ but some of my songs are more emotional & vulnerable. When someone listens to my album, I want to hit every feeling that they might have.” If you’re an R&B fan, “Shattered” just may be your new favourite track: “I don’t like being predictable. I love the unexpected. I love when people look at someone and are like, ‘Why are they that way?’ That’s when my job is done. That’s exactly what I want people to be like – ‘Who is Jillea?’ That is the point of what I do.” Congratulations on your debut single, Jillea! We cannot stop listening!
