We all know about the song, or should we say the animal, that has taken over our entire summer and has taken the music world by storm.
Of course we’re talking about the phenomenon of “Panda”, which climbed its way up to the top of the Billboard chart, recently gained Platinum status, was sampled in Kanye’s The Life of Pablo, and introduced us to a rising rap superstar.
Meet Desiigner, the Brooklyn native who’s about to leave his mark in the Hip-Hop and fashion scene.
With the original intention of selling the song to another artist, Desiigner bought the beat for “Panda” for just $200 and decided to keep the track for himself, a move that proved to be a very smart one. After catching the attention of Kanye West and G.O.O.D. music President Pusha T, the song gained buzz in New York before catching fire around the world.
Kanye announced during his Yeezy Season 3 show in February that Desiigner had signed to G.O.O.D. Music.
He’s has been able to build his popularity through his character alone without a debut album; He recently made his talk show debut on Stephen Colbert then Wendy Williams, set the stage on fire with the G.O.O.D. music crew at Hot 97’s Summer Jam, had a feature video in Vogue, made the cover of the 2016 XXL Freshman Issue, andperformed at this year’s iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards.
If you ask us, Desiigner is doing pretty good for someone with only one single out so far.
He followed up the mega-smash with a recently released mixtape New English. There’s bound to be one track off the project that will follow in the footsteps of “Panda.”
So what’s next for the New York rapper? The rapper is now in the studio recording his album with executive production from Kanye himself, as well as Mike Dean.
He’s catching the attention of the pop world too: Check him out with joined Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas on stage in Brooklyn for their Future Now tour!
We’re stoked to see what this amazing 19 year old artist has in store for us.
Check out our very own Panda video that we created ;-), and listen to New English below:
