Known for being a summer highlight for most Toronto natives, Drake‘s 8th Annual OVO Fest went down as another iconic event that had and will have the city talking for years to come. As just mentioned, this was the 8th time Drake put on this festival, featuring the many talented artists on his OVO roster. Already announced on the bill – Roy Woods, DVSN, Majid Jordan & PARTYNEXTDOOR all performed for an adoring fanbase! The energy was HIGH!
What makes OVO Fest so special is not only knowing who’s going to be performing, but in fact not knowing who else will be performing! What does that mean, you ask? Drake has established a habit of bringing out SURPRISE GUESTS every year which adds to the entire experience. He just wants to bring out his friends to perform for the city that he loves, and not to mention fan-girl himself as he and the rest of TO jam out to the hottest tracks in the world.
Well, this year did NOT disappoint! Are you ready to read who he brought out on stage?! WE DON’T THINK YOU’RE READY!!
To start, Drizzy brought Playboi Carti out on stage & he brought his Milly Rock to the 6ix. Carti performed his track “Magnolia” and the city went OFF. Next up was Rae Sremmurd, running on stage to perform their Hot 100 hit “Black Beatles” as the crowd did the opposite of the mannequin challenge. Sway Lee stayed on stage as Drake brought out French Montana to perform their hit “Unforgettable,” which to say the least, was unforgettable!
We’re not done yet fam!
The 6ix God got halfway through his banger of a track, “Controlla” when he stopped and brought out his long-time rival Tory Lanez to perform the Contralla Remix! When they finished, Drake took to the mic to preach to the kids, saying that people should take his and Tory’s new-found friendship as an example of what can happen when people get passed their issues and just get to know each other. THIS IS WHY WE LOVE DRAKE!
Next up, Drake brought out Cardi B to perform her hit “Bodak Yellow” which he claimed to be “the hottest song out.” Shoutouts to Cardi for that co-sign! Just when we thought it couldn’t get any more LITTTT, who walks on stage? MIGOS! Performing their crowd pleaser, “Bad and Boujee,” the entire venue was shaking. There wasn’t even time to settle down because Drake then brought out Travis Scott to throw down his track “Goosebumps.” SO MUCH FIRE.
Possibly the biggest surprise came next when Drake decided to bring out the long-time legend, Nelly. Going through classics such as “E.I.,” “Ride Wit Me,” and “Hot In Herre.” Trust us when we say it was a VIBE.
Last, but not least, Drake brought out another Toronto king. Coming straight off his Osheaga stage, The Weeknd graced OVO and performed “Reminder,” “Starboy,” and finished his set with the OVOXO classic “Crew Love” with Drake himself. So much love for all the artists repping Canada around the world! These two do exactly that.
Drake finished off the night with his smash hit “Gyalchester” bringing out his mate Baka Not Nice to help add to the energy. All in all, this was a night to remember! For all of you experiencing major FOMO right now, apologies. For any of you that made it out to the show, what did you think?! Let us know by leaving a comment below, or tweet us @umusic.
Oh, can we also just take a hot sec to appreciate this stage setup???
Literally all we want to do now is blast “More Life” all day long.
