Meet Daya: Grammy Award Winning Singer, SongwriterPosted on October 19, 2017
Grace Martine Tandon – better known as Daya.
Born in Pittsburgh, and raised in Pennsylvania. Daya is an 18-year old American singer, songwriter who got her start in music at a young age. With Indian roots, her stage name Daya is the Sanskrit word for “compassion” or “kindness”.
At the age of 3, Daya started her musical journey on the piano. By the age of eleven she knew how to play several instruments – including guitar, ukulele, saxophone, and flute.
In 2015, Daya flew out to Los Angeles to work with a songwriter and producer named Gino Barletta. This allowed her the chance to work on original material.
During one of the sessions, “Hide Away” was written. That track became her debut single, which was released on April 22, 2015.
Following the success of “Hide Away”, Daya then released her very own EP on September 4, 2015. The EP was self-titled Daya, which debuted at number 161 on the Billboard 200. Very impressive for a debut EP.
Following her EP release, 2016 was looking to be a HUGE year for Daya. Let’s delve in to everything that she accomplished within the year:
