It’s time to get festive, pals.
So December is officially in full force and it’s time to step it up a notch with the holiday festivities. But are you stuck feeling like a total Grinch and just don’t have the motivation to spread some holiday cheer? Don’t fret, we’ve got you covered. Bumming around this holiday season is taking the easy route. But it’s time to make 2017 your best holiday season yet by getting out there for a few activities that’ll put you right in the mood.
Here’s how you can guarantee feeling even a teeny tiny bit festive this season, even if it’s just once 😉.
This one is pretty self explanatory. Grab your friends and do an afternoon of festive baking. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a holiday recipe, you can make your cookies into the shape of Christmas trees, or decorate them with festive icing and candies.
You can definitely get creative with this one. Turn on some festive tunes and get your bake on!
Decorate A Gingerbread House
Not a fan of gingerbread? That’s okay. Decorating the gingerbread house is the best part. Besides, everyone knows the best part is sneaking a few (or more) of the candies while you’re decorating. It’s a win-win situation – you get to snack on some sugary goodness and participate in some festive decorating.
Want to step it up a notch? Why not buy two kits, and have a little competition with your friend. Let’s see who wins for most holiday-esque gingerbread house.
Make Homemade Ornaments
This is fun! Ornaments can definitely get a little expensive if you want a tree full of different kinds. Make it into a DIY craft and create your own!
- Buy a box of plain, clear, plastic ornaments
- Buy a pack of temporary tattoos
And voila! Stick those temp tatts on as you would on your own skin, and you’ve got yourself a cool little DIY for your tree. If you’re feeling super artsy, try creating your design freehand with permanent markets or paint!
Host An Ugly Christmas Sweater Party
What better way to get festive than to have all your friends over dressed in ugly Christmas sweaters. We love that this is a thing, it’s allows you to be super comfy (which is obviously the most important) and you get to snap some cute pics with your friends for the holidays.
Shop For A Real Christmas Tree
Although fake Christmas trees last longer, can be kept in storage, and cause less of a headache. There is something about a real Christmas tree that adds to holiday cheer. Imagine getting to walk through fields and fields of trees, finding the PERFECT one and wrapping it up to bring home with you. Think of the instas!
It’s a special moment that you can do with your family, or your significant other. Get tree picking!
DIY Advent Calendar
This is fun! Don’t spend your money on an advent calendar if you can make your own. This can be a fun activity to do with your family, and again, be creative with this one.
This is how we would do it:
- Buy small paper boxes
- Label them 1-24
- Decorate each box as you please
- Each family member buy a couple stocking stuffer gifts
- Stick them into each box with a bit a tissue
There you have it! Your very own DIY advent calendar. It’s cute and creative.
Go Away For A Winter Fun-Filled Weekend
If you’re a fan of the outdoors, this is great for you. Take the weekend and head over to a village that is full of skiing, snowboarding, tubing. Whichever sport you’re interested in – do it.
It’s a great way to wind down and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Relax and have some fun (and mulled wine, of course).
Take Santa Photos
Don’t knock this down. Santa photos are a must (and not only when you were a little kid). Make memories this holiday season and take some festive pics with Mr. Claus.
Host A Secret Santa Gift Exchange
And this can be any way you want. Set a price limit, have DIY gifts only – whatever you want. This is a great way to get into the holiday spirit with your friends and family this season.
Tbh, it also saves you a ton of money.
Ace Your Finals + Celebrate
Lastly, if you’re still in school and dreading life right now. The holidays are the BEST thing you can look forward to! Push through all your assignments, ace your finals and celebrate with all your friends afterwards.
This is the one thing that will definitely get you into the holiday spirit. Finishing off the semester and getting a month of freedom. YES.
