MEET: Black Atlass – The Fresh New Face of Fashion And R&B

Otherwise known as 22-year-old Alex Fleming

Montreal born Alex Fleming has been making waves in not only the music industry, but the fashion industry as well. Under the name Black Atlass, he began releasing his music when he was still in high school. His work caught the attention of luxury retailer Louis Vuitton, who contacted him to use his song “Paris” for a campaign. The song was also featured in a Saint Laurent fragrance ad. He’s since been flown out to fashion shows and featured in Alexander Wang’s fashion campaign.

Of this natural blend between his style and his music, Fleming has said:

“I want to be regarded as an artist overall in the same way Prince was, so fashion is just as important as the music. The aura that you create when you walk into a room is a big part of an artist’s performance. As corny as it sounds, my art and my vision is my life. I can’t really separate the two—it’s all one thing.”

Recently, The Weeknd signed Black Atlass to XO Records, pretty much securing his spot in the R&B world. He has also collaborated with Jessie Reyez on the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack. We expect plenty more music milestones will follow.

Back in May, Black Atlass released an acoustic version of his song “Pain and Pleasure”. We love the original, but the acoustic version showcases his vocal abilities and range really well. Listen below!
