Benny, whose full name is Benjamin Joseph Levin, was born in Reston, Virginia. His fixation with music came early on in life. When he was as young as 5, Benny and his older brother often spent time at their local cassette store. It was there that he first bought the classic Nas EP Illmatic, which he credits as one of his very first musical inspirations.
After receiving a keyboard from his parents, Benny started making music. Benny created beats and rapped over them, and eventually caught the attention of various people within the music industry. In an interview with VIBE, Benny talks how he first got noticed. He also touches on his first experiences within the music industry, which included scrubbing toilets and making tuna sandwiches:
“I’ve been making music since I was kid so it just kind of happened. When you want something that bad, you’re not going to stop at it, you know. So if someone asks me to scrub some toilets, I’m going to scrub some toilets. I just feel like the harder you work the more chances you have to be lucky. I was hitting up people all over Myspace, right when it got big. I would hit up everyone […] and I would cold call people and pretend I was a lawyer. They would pass me through and I would be like, “Please let me play you my demo.” So I just did a lot of wild shit to just try and grab people’s ears.”

Eventually, Benny stopped rapping and focused more on writing and producing music. It was under the tutelage of various mentors within the music industry that his career began to blossom. By age 20, Benny had a handful of number one songs under his belt, including tracks with Katy Perry and Brittany Spears.
Nearly 10 years later, after lending his talents to dozens of artists, Benny has finally released music under is own name. His debut album Friends Keep Secrets released in December 2018. The album shares the same name as Benny’s record label. The EP features Benny’s production with features from artists like Halsey, Khalid, Juice Wrld, and more. You can stream the album right here:
