First Single “Whistleblower” Serviced To Radio July 4 & Available For Purchase Digitally July 5
New Album Released Fall 2011
Universal Music Canada (UMC) – the country’s leading music company – is pleased to announce the signing of 2010 Juno Award Winners, Arkells. The announcement was made earlier today by Randy Lennox, President & CEO of Universal Music Canada and Arkells.
Arkells have spent the last few years writing new material while on the road for their forthcoming Fall 2011 sophomore release. The band got together this past winter and recorded at The Tragically Hip’s Bathouse Studios in Kingston, Ontario. Their first single from the album, “Whistleblower”, will be serviced to radio July 4 and available for purchase digitally on July 5. A second track, “Kiss Cam” will be available for fans digitally on July 12.
“Arkells are one of Canada’s most exciting and prolific bands and we’re delighted to welcome them directly into the Universal Music Canada family,” comments Lennox. “Jackson Square has been in heavy rotation in my car for two years and I can’t wait to add the new record into this playlist.” Hamilton natives, Arkells (Max Kerman, Mike DeAngelis, Dan Griffin, Nick Dika, Tim Oxford) formed five years ago and have since become one of Canada’s most acclaimed rock outfits. In 2008, the band released their super-charged debut CD, Jackson Square and toured relentlessly coast-to-coast impressing fans and critics alike with their adrenalin-infused live show.
“We are excited to get the ball rolling on album number two with our new partners at Universal Music,“ commented Arkells upon signing. “We are flattered that Randy and the gang are so keen, and look forward to seeing what tricks they have up their sleeves. We can’t wait for everyone to hear the new tunes, and look forward to playing them live for you soon”
In 2010, Arkells were propelled further into the national spotlight, garnering impressive awards that include: The Juno Award for “New Group of The Year; The Canadian Music Week Indie Award for “Favourite Live Artist/Group”; and Canadian Radio Music Award for “FACTOR Breakthrough Artist”.
