15 NOVEMBER 2019 (TORONTO, ON) – Today, Orthodox Hasidic singer/songwriter, Shulem, releases his major label debut album, The Perfect Dream, via Decca Gold/Universal Music Canada, the country's leading music company. In addition to the original track, “Face the Unknown”, the album is a collection of well-known adult contemporary songs, beloved Broadway standards and classic traditional Jewish melodies. The Perfect Dream marks the first time that a singer from the orthodox Hasidic community has been signed to a major label. You can listen to the album here.
Overall the album notes the arrival of a “new” voice that has been seasoned by years of performing for his congregation. Influenced by artists such as Luciano Pavarotti, Billy Joel, and Stevie Wonder, the songs reflect the diverse musical styles that Shulem has embraced. In addition to his first co-writing effort on “Face The Unknown”, the set includes heartfelt renditions of “Peace Wanted Just To Be Free” (the collaboration between Stevie Wonder & Luciano Pavarotti from the Pavarotti & Friends benefit concert), “The Prayer” (the renowned duet by Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli), “When You Believe” (the stunning duet by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston), and the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
Shulem finds in music something rich and affirming, an endeavor that makes the soul soar and the spirit rise and speaks to the human condition – the album showcases the tenor’s hopes and dreams for a peaceful world. The Perfect Dream is produced by Jon Cohen, the international award-winning producer and arranger known for his contributions to the Classical Crossover genre.
