14 AUGUST 2019 (TORONTO, ON) — Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has scored his first Canadian/U.S. Platinum single with “Someone You Loved”, which has earned one million equivalent song units. The song shattered records throughout Europe and is Platinum or greater in a total of eight countries. “Someone You Loved” spent a nearly unprecedented seven weeks at No. 1 on the U.K. Official Singles chart and continues to climb on the Billboard Hot 100, entering the top 20. This week, Capaldi also dropped the brand-new music video for his latest single, "Hold Me While You Wait".

During his sold-out summer North American tour, Capaldi dropped by historic Studio B at Capitol Studios in Hollywood and gave a poignant, stripped down 1 Mic 1 Take performance of “Someone You Loved” for an audience of fans. View his performance HERE. Cumulative worldwide streams of the song have surpassed 880 million and it recently topped the global Shazam chart. Combined global views of the official video, which stars the artist’s distant relative Peter Capaldi (“Dr. Who”), have surpassed 100 million.

“Someone You Loved” is from Capaldi’s debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which has achieved over one million global adjusted album sales including over one billion combined streams. It topped the U.K. Official Albums chart for six weeks and is the fastest selling UK debut of 2019 with 90,000 albums sold in the first week. Robert Christgau, reviewing for Noisey, awarded the album an A- and hailed it as “a feat of uncommon emotional intelligence.”
The 22-year-old artist made his U.S. late night television debut on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in June. The following week, he performed “Someone You Loved” on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and, in a first for the show, Corden invited Capaldi back to perform for a second night in a row.
