The Reklaws Release Feels like That Video Shot Exclusively on iPhone – Available Today, Only on Apple Music
30 JANUARY 2019 (TORONTO, ON) – Today, CCMA award-winning and JUNO nominated Canadian Country duo, The Reklaws, release their music video for the chart-topping single, “Feels Like That”. Shot entirely on iPhone XS, “Feels Like That” was directed by Ben Knechtel and features Jenna and Stuart Walker on location in the Banff Rockies of Alberta and the sunny coast of California. Watch the video exclusively on Apple Music today.
“Feels Like That” is the title track to their debut EP Feels Like That released in 2018 via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The single recently hit number one on the Canadian Country Airplay charts, a milestone for the band as their first number one hit. The Feels Like That EP was also recently nominated for Country Album of the Year for the 2019 JUNO Awards taking place this March in London, Ontario.
“Shooting a video entirely on iPhone was something that I’ve always wanted to experiment with, and it was very liberating,” said Director Ben Knechtel. “It reminded me of what it feels like to create without the stress that can come with some productions. I knew I wanted Jenna on the beach, and Stu in the mountains to provide a contrast between warmth and cold and have the scenic landscapes become visual representations of how The Reklaws must be feeling after the breakout year they’ve had. Shooting on iPhone allowed us the freedom to just drive around with a loose plan and pull over wherever we thought something looked cool, pull the iPhone out and SHOOT! The camera is incredible! You just can’t do that with big crews, studios, logistics, et cetera. I loved it!”
On the music video, The Reklaws said: “We’re beyond excited to be releasing the “Feels Like That” music video today. The video was shot entirely on iPhone, which we thought was so unique and natural, as the majority of what we record in our daily lives is on iPhone. The inspiration for this song was to try and describe what falling in love really feels like without actually saying those three little words. When it came to the video, we wanted to stay away from a traditional love story and capture those “Feels Like That” moments with euphoric scenery that gets the senses tingling. Half of the video was shot in Banff, surrounded by the beautiful Canadian Rockies, and the other half was filmed on a breathtaking beach in Malibu, California. Unlike shooting with a large camera and crew, iPhone gave us the flexibility to shoot whenever and wherever we wanted. Several times, as we were driving, we stopped the car to shoot a quick scene because the scenery was too beautiful to pass up. This would not have been possible with the large camera and crew. With iPhone we could be spontaneous while filming, which allowed us to capture some pretty amazing shots.”
The Reklaws had a massively successful 2018, with their second single “Long Live the Night” being the most streamed domestic country song released last year. The gold-certified track was the theme song for Thursday Night Football on TSN as part of the weekly CFL broadcast. In August of 2018 they released their debut EP, “Feels Like That”, which on the first weekend of release was the #1 selling Canadian country album in Canada on iTunes. The duo performed on the live broadcast for the 2018 CCMA Awards on September 9 and won the SiriusXM Rising Star Award along with their nominations for Video of the Year (“Hometown Kids”), and Group or Duo of the Year. To cap off their year, The Reklaws performed on the Sirius XM Kickoff show at the 106th Grey Cup on November 25.
The duo recently announced their first ever headlining tour, Winter’s A Beach, which will make eight stops across Ontario and Quebec and feature labelmates Jade Eagleson and East Adelaide as direct support for all dates. Stay tuned for much more to come as The Reklaws continue to solidify themselves as the next superstars in country music in Canada.
