Field Trip 2016 was a weekend for the record books! Heading into Saturday, the sun was scorching, and the music was even hotter! First up was Tor Miller, setting the bar high: his powerful voice soared to every corner of the festival grounds. From the danceable rhythms of “Carter & Cash” to the soaring heights of “Baby Blue“, Tor brought a perfectly balanced set that left the crowd craving more!
The Beaches were another highlight of the weekend: these Toronto punk rockers came with a boom! Raucous vocals, thrashing drums and throbbing bass lines delivered with such a fierce intensity; these girls are not an act to be missed!
It was onto Brave Shores, the perfect summer soundtrack: an abundance of shimmering synthesizers and singalong anthems served as a welcomed mid-afternoon treat! We got a sneak peek of some new music too and can’t wait to hear what other infectious tunes this brother-sister duo will whip up.
We couldn’t take our eyes off of July Talk–the onstage chemistry between Leah and Peter is one-of-a-kind: whether she’s twirling herself up in her mic cable or he’s crowdsurfing with his guitar, the two are a perfect blend of charismatic and crazy. The band previewed new music too, and safe to say it’s shaping up to be one hell of an album. It was an incredible day–but time to catch up on sleep to be in tip-top shape for Sunday! Not even a little torrential downpour could put a damper on our day. Even though a portion of the lineup had to be cut because of weather, the remaining acts were hungry to end on a high note!
Basia Bulat‘s folk roots were in full-force: the crowd stood in awe as her haunting vocals washed over Fort York. She’s an incredible Canadian talent, and her live show is bar-none. It was an incredible weekend and we can’t wait for Field Trip 2017! We’ll see you next year!
