The Lumineers have released the visuals for their album’s title track “Cleopatra,” and the video is as heartfelt as ever. Watch as a middle aged taxi driver who we can only imagine is Cleopatra herself picks up passengers of all different walks of life, and experiences their different stories.
Right around the 1:40 mark, you see the driver make direct eye contact with a young lady (Neyla Pekarek of The Lumineers) and we wonder, is this her daughter? Does the young lady remind her of herself? Well no need to wonder for too long, as the Isaac Ravishankara directed video is the first of a series, which will tell the story of the album and be released in reverse-chronological order.
Cleopatra follows a 55-year-old taxi driver as she ferries “strangers in the backseat” around town, all of whom bring back moving memories for her. Eventually her own son jumps into the passenger seat. They head to an empty car park to enjoy burgers and fries on the car bonnet before heading home, where it emerges that she is dropping him off with his dad, her ex-husband, and will no longer be walking in with him as she used to. — Independent
Here’s what the band had to say about the individual, the video, and the album:
“Cleopatra was the bedrock of the album…she drives taxis and is this badass lady – she’ll pick you up from the airport with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth and a beer can between her legs.”
We can’t get enough of this amazing song and video! Make sure to check out The Lumineers’ album, of the same name – available now.
