UMUSIC X Osheaga – Day 2 Recap!

Posted on July 31, 2016

When you start Day 2 of Osheaga on the back of a golf cart, on the way to meet Chef Chuck Hughes, and also eat his food, it’s kind of the best day ever. That’s exactly how we felt as we strolled down the scenic route this morning, on the way to Artist World. We might not be artists, but we sure felt like celebrity status this morning!

Here’s what we rolled up to:

We really wish our blog was a scratch n sniff right about now, cause this food was insanity!

Before we indulged in the food though, we took a minute to chat with Chef Chuck Hughes himself, who might we add is oh so lovely.

How cool is it that he gets to serve each and every artist at Osheaga? Our favourite part of the interview was when he asked us to go eat haha 🙂 In case you were curious, here is what our plates looked like:

After the greatest meal of our life, we headed over to see some of the greatest performers of life, July Talk. If you’ve ever seen them live before, you know exactly what we mean when we say Leah and Peter’s chemistry on stage is hypnotizing! Starting their set with their latest single “Push + Pull,” July Talk had the crowd dancing within seconds. We couldn’t remove our eyes from the stage, and got hella excited when Leah, as she often does, got into the crowd! Here’s a visual for you:

After their set, we were chilling backstage with professional hockey player, Zach Fucale — who is big a fan of theirs! Zach told us he wanted the full music festival experience while at Osheaga, so we decided a great music initiation includes interviewing one of your favourite bands. And that’s exactly what happened when we saw July Talk walk backstage:

Great job, Zach! You make a great music host 🙂

We grabbed some cold drinks and headed to another stage, to catch Daughter perform. If you’re looking for a mellow and dreamy set at a festival, we highly guarantee Daughter! A mixture of Elena’s soft voice and powerful lyrics never fail to give us chills.

We’ve recently been obsessing over Frances, a new artist hailing from the UK with a beautiful smile and an even more beautiful voice! Not only did Frances win the crowd over with a lovely rendition of Justin Bieber‘s “What Do You Mean,” but she also sang us her latest track, “Say It Again.” It was a perfect set!

Talking about UK artists, brings us to another major Osheaga set – from Bastille. Before the band took the main Montagne stage, we met up with them backstage…did you know Dan spoke french?

Bastille mixed a little classic (Think: “Pompeii”) with a little new (Think: “Good Grief”), and even snuck in a cover (Think: “Rhythm Of The Night”). Not only did every song come with a killer performance, but the crowd too was super into it — jumping and singing along to every beat. Our personal fave moment though, was when Dan pulled out his cell phone during the last song, to film the crowd. Did anyone else notice his nintendo inspired phone case?

Here’s what else we saw during their set:

The day was busy as heck, but that didn’t mean we skipped anyone! Since we’re in Montreal, we think it was necessary that we saw Coeur De Pirate. Not only was it necessary, but it was absolutely wonderful. We have to admit, our french is a little rusty, but when Coeur De Pirate sang in french, it was our ears that understood.

As the sun set on Day 2 of Osheaga, we snuck in a couple more sets. One artist that we were extremely excited to lay our eyes on was Aurora. The Norwegian singer had to cancel her previous Canadian tour dates — so you bet we were counting down the days til her Osheaga show. One thing we can say? It was exactly what we had dreamed of and more. Her dancing, alone, made us smile so big:

The crowd was loving every second of Aurora‘s set. We highly recommend catching an Aurora show if she’s ever in a city near you – it was so much fun. If she’s not touring near you any time soon, here’s a quick sneak peek:

After Aurora came the final act of the day, Lana Del Rey! We’ve been counting the days til we saw Lana take the stage, and as per usual — it was perfection. Whoever planned the line up, knew this would be a beautiful way to end the day 🙂
