Aqua Reuniting For 20th Anniversary Of Barbie Girl!

Posted on September 14, 2016

Life is plastic, and about to get fantastic once again thanks to Aqua. The Danish quartet will tour their home country for the 20th anniversary of staple hit “Barbie Girl” in 2017, according to The Sun. Released as the third single from their debut album Aquarium, “Barbie Girl” reached #1 on 19 charts worldwide (including the United Kingdom), #4 in Canada and #7 on the United State’s Billboard Hot 100 chart. Aquarium would sell over 14 million copies around the globe, and a total of 33 million records and singles, making them the most successful Danish band ever. The band split in 2001, telling Billboard: “We have looked each other straight in the eye and reached the conclusion that, for the moment, the spark is missing.” This isn’t the first reunion for Aqua: the group came back together for a 2008 comeback tour and a 2009 Greatest Hits compilation. They released their first original music in over 10 years when they released third album Megalomaniac in 2011, another hit in Denmark.
