Definitely had to pinch herself.
While other artists casually woke up to the grand news of receiving a Grammy nomination, Julia Michaels had a bit of a different experience. The singer, songwriter, who is currently on tour in Sydney, Australia was woken up to a scare in the middle of the night.
The “Issues” singer told Billboard that she woke up finding her manager inches away from her face – jumping up and down while crying. Julia recalls being super confused, “I was just like, ‘What is happening right now?’ It was so funny.”
Once everything was a little settled down, she finally put the pieces together and began to freak out. She’s officially a Grammy nominated artist.
This is what she had to say about the news:
“Every artist dreams of being nominated for a Grammy. I was really nervous. I’m such a pessimist, I was like it’s not going to happen. And I was woken up early to the news and I just couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it, I’m still in shock. It’s incredible, I’ve always wanted to be recognized as a songwriter at the Grammys and now being recognized as an artist and knowing that what I do resonates with people enough to even be voted into such a huge category, it’s such a surreal feeling.”
An unbelievable feat for the up-and-comer. She’s been writing songs for platinum recording artists for awhile now, so for her to finally achieve her own Grammy nom is just incredible. As she’s currently touring with Shawn Mendes in Australia, he texted her saying congratulations when he found out about the news. Much, much deserved, Julia.
She was an audience member for the past three years. And now she has nominations in both Best New Artist and Song Of The Year for “Issues”. The 2018 Grammys are going to be an exciting night.
