The 2017 Billboard Women In Music Gala Highlights

Posted on December 01, 2017

Here’s to celebrating powerful women in music.

Billboard Women In Music event is a ceremony that marks the incredibly talented women in the music industry. Each woman that accepted an award acknowledged the importance of female empowerment not only in the music industry, but in general. A common theme across the night was that it’s time for women to stand together and work towards positive changes.

And of course Selena Gomez, the ‘Woman of the Year,’ ended things off with a super emotional speech of her own. Selena has had a roller coaster of a year, she successfully jumped back into her work after facing serious health struggles and her continuous strength has inspired many other women around the world.

So, this year Billboard honoured her with the ‘Woman of the Year’ award and she couldn’t have been a better fit for the honour.

Earlier this Summer, Selena’s best friend, Francia Raisa selflessly donated her kidney to the star. And at this year’s Billboard’s WIM gala, Francia introduced and presented the important award to Selena.

Accepting the award from her BFF, Selena then gave the most emotional speech:

“I think Francia should be getting this award, because she saved my life. I feel incredibly lucky. Honestly, I couldn’t be more grateful for the position I’ve been given in my career. I want people to know I respect the platform that I have so deeply. Specifically this year, I would like to thank my amazing team and my family because they stuck with me through some really hard times. I’m so grateful for the older women who have lifted all of us up. I don’t know how I’ll ever repay it but maybe I’ll make an epic album next year.”

Watch the special moment between the pair:

Tears.

More tears.
