Celebrate Valentine’s Day With These Perfect Date Night Ideas

Posted on January 15, 2018

Love is in the air.

It’s that time of year again. Valentine’s Day is upon us and for those of you lucky enough to be in a relationship, the expectations are high. But don’t you worry because UMusic has got you covered with some date night ideas that are sure to be a hit this year.

Be Tourists For A Day…

No matter where you live, there’s bound to be plenty of free and affordable things to do with your significant other this winter. For us Torontonians, we’re grateful to have a plentiful variety of activities available at our fingertips. One we’re especially excited for is the Distillery District’s Light Festival happening now until the end of March. Just like Shawn Mendes and Hailey Baldwin once did; enjoy a cup of hot cocoa from Balzacs, shop for matching toques, all while taking in the beautiful and FREE light displays.

…And Take Lots of Photos

Because that’s what Tourists do. Actually, scrap that. Forget anything else you were planning to do, host a photoshoot instead! Dress in your best winter apparel and get ready to strut your stuff all day long. Instagram will thank you later.

Go To A Show…

Nothing says love more than bonding over your fav music. Whether it’s a local act or a stadium headliner, memories are guaranteed to be had. If you’re looking for some suggestions, you might want to consider these: NF (Feb 11th at Danforth Music Hall, Toronto), BØRNS (Feb 10th at Club Soda, Montreal) or James Barker Band (Feb 10th at Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver).

…Or Host Your Own

And by that, we mean a karaoke night of epic proportions. Invite your friends, buy snacks, and don’t forget to rehearse!

Enjoy A Music Movie Marathon…

Cozy up under a warm blanket and get ready to binge watch! Why put yourself through the stress of a busy movie theatre when you can enjoy the same luxuries at home? Netflix has a terrific collection of music-centric titles including Lady Gaga’s acclaimed documentary Five Foot Two, musicals like Grease and Beauty and the Beast, and the Netflix original The Get Down.

… Underneath a blanket fort!

Pair your movie marathon with a little old school fort building and you’re in for a Valentine’s Date Night no one will forget. Can you say romantic??

Prove your knowledge at Trivia Night…

The options are endless! Dust off your classic edition of Trivial Pursuit, power up a 9PM session of HQ, or grab a pint during Trivia Night at the local bar! In Toronto, bars such as Sneaky Dee’s and Gladstone Hotel Trivia Night every Wednesday. Be sure to arrive early to get a spot!

…Or improve your knowledge at the Museum or Art Gallery

Learn about love through the ages with a trip to your local museum or art gallery. In Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is free every Wednesday between 6 and 9pm.

Get your game on!…

Revisit some of your favorite childhood board games and video games (Nintendo FTW). If you’re feeling ambitious, why not organize your own Scavenger Hunt? Filled with locations and items that are most meaningful to you and your significant other.

…or take things up a notch with an Escape Room.

Canada has some of the best Escape Rooms in the world including Toronto’s Casa Loma experience.

Be a Winter warrior…

Wear your Canadian citizenship with pride with a Valentine’s Day ice skating date. And if you’re lacking the ice skating talent, then perhaps you might want to consider a night of tobogganing instead.

…Or hibernate indoors.

Who says you have to wait until summer to enjoy your favorite activities? Grab your bathing suit and head over to the local pool. Or unleash your inner athlete with a game of indoor beach volleyball. Just remember, it’s only a game! Otherwise you might be spending next Valentine’s Day alone.

Book a weekend getaway…

Save your pennies and visit some friends out of town! If they’re true friends, they’ll certainly let you crash on their couch. But if you have the budget, you might want to splurge and get an Air BNB instead. A little privacy is goes a long way during Valentine’s Day.

Or a staycation.

Pamper yourself with breakfast in bed, and afterwards turn on the fireplace channel and cuddle the rest of the day away. Or invite your friends over for double date night with a delicious home cooked meal. Or order takeout because that’s what you deserve.
