Behind The Lyrics: “Taki Taki” DJ Snake with Cardi B, Selena Gomez & Ozuna

Posted on October 02, 2018

Let’s break it all down…

Unless you’ve been vacationing on a deserted island sans wifi or data, then there is quite literally no possible way that you’ve missed the news that DJ Snake released an absolutely star-studded new track, “Taki Taki”. With Cardi B, Selena Gomez and Ozuna on the bill, the song was bound to be a hit and seeing as it’s sitting pretty comfortably in the charts, everyone seems to be loving it.

But if you aren’t a Spanish speaker, you may not know what the song is all about. Even if you are, you are also probably confused because it turns out the phrase, “Taki Taki” is actually made up. A quick dabble with Google Translate and you’ll find that there’s no real meaning of the term. Don’t believe us?

Cardi B herself doesn’t even know what the word means, in a behind the scenes clip she said:

‘Taki Taki’ I know for a fact is a word that Osuna made up. Because these reggaeton artists be making sh*t up. It’s like “What does it mean?’ I don’t know, but it flows right.

Ozuna then went on to confirm that Cardi is in fact correct. Adding in:

‘Taki Taki’ is nothing, it’s a dance. It’s like a flow. It’s new. That’s a new sound. It’s new. I don’t know what I’m saying. ‘Taki Taki’ is not in Spanish.

You know you’ve made it when you can just make words up and have them ass the title of a hit song. The rest of the song is actually made up of real words, so they’re not singing or rapping a made up language, but rather a mix of Spanish and English and oh, it is a goodie.

What do you make of all this? Let us know with a tweet @umusic.
