Posted on April 03, 2020

Happy Friday! It’s Friday, right? We hope so, because we’re back. But of course we are, we wouldn’t leave you to fend for yourself on a New Music Friday!

We’re here to see how you’re doing, what you’re doing, and help you figure out what you’re listening to! Here are some brand new releases to brighten up your Friday and send you straight into the weekend.

“Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America” by The 1975

Another pre-release from the 1975’s upcoming album has arrived! I think it’s fair to say we could all use a little soothing right now from Matty Healy’s sweet voice. The album is now set to release on May 22nd, so get ready and pre-save it here!

“I Choose” by Alessia Cara

From the upcoming quirky Netflix film that is sure to make the entire family laugh comes an honest and empathetic single from the Ontario singer, Alessia Cara. Similar to the film, the single is about choosing who you love, as hard as it might be, or how bumpy the road is that gets you there – it’s about reaching the end of that journey. We don’t get to choose our family but love sure does hold it together and Cara’s sweet vocals are here to remind us of that during the family-time-overload many of us are experiencing!

“Take Yourself Home” by Troye Sivan

A pep talk with yourself and the place you’re from is what Sivan’s favourite song he has ever written is about. Originally written as a diary entry, the meaning of “Take Yourself Home” took on an entirely new definition as he headed home to Australia for this period of isolation. As times continue to change and the world works to adapt in the best way possible Sivan acknowledged that many freelance artists are struggling through this pandemic. He used the money originally sourced for a music video and called out to creatives to develop the visual elements for the single. Thanks to the incredible response, the visuals for the pre-save page, lyric video, and more were all sourced from freelance artists.

“Toosie Slide” by Drake

On his first single of 2020 Drake is not only giving us a bop but also a casual tour of his notorious Toronto mansion. And we must include, we’re happy to see Drake is following social distancing measures put in place. An artist like Drake has of course already seen TikTok clout. But how could a song with literal dance instructions not be bound to blow up? A snippet of the track was released by various dancers including Toosie on Instagram earlier this week confirming that this has/will undoubtedly be taking the TikTok world by storm.

“Find My Way” by DaBaby

Perhaps not a veteran of the scene but definitely with no lack of credit, DaBaby is back to deliver his first single of 2020! The track showcases a new flow and raw-melodies throughout and comes alongside a 10-minute short film. The film follows a journey to secure funds for the rapper’s ailing grandmother, it questions morality and argues what may or may not be deemed acceptable when it’s for a good cause.

Dream Awake by Black Atlass

Following the release of two singles earlier this year, comes the Ontario singer’s full album, Dream Awake. The album serves as a metaphor for the feeling of lust. It is a journey of the joy and chaos two individuals experience while getting to know each other and ultimately, falling in love.

Christian by Allan Rayman

His most diverse album to date comes backed with plenty of inspiration. Created with his childhood in mind and a range of emotions, it is “the most confident album” Rayman has ever made. Although he will be celebrating the release alone, once safe, Rayman will set out on his US headline tour. For the first time ever, he will combine his two strengths: dramatic production and theatrical visuals in combination with a live band.
