AYSANABEE SHARES “EGO DEATH” FROM FORTHCOMING DEBUT ALBUM ‘WATIN’
“NOMADS” HITS #1 ON CBC MUSIC TOP 20
ANNOUNCES ALBUM RELEASE SHOW AT THE RIVOLI, NOVEMBER 8
7 OCTOBER 2022 (TORONTO, ON) – “Ego Death,” the third single from Aysanabee’s debut collection, Watin, arrives today in advance of the album’s release on November 4, 2022 via Ishkōdé Records/Universal Music Canada, the country's leading music company.
The song captures a moment in time where Aysanabee realized he may have waited too long to hear his grandfather’s stories. Melancholic yet triumphant in its preservation of a rich yet fragmented history, “Ego Death” mirrors the album’s cyclical journey. By definition, Ego Death is the complete loss of self-identity, the perception that one might not be the things they have identified with: a fitting title for Aysanabee’s exploration of family and the self.
Aysanabee’s profile continues to build as Watin’s release date nears. Previously released single “Nomads,” is currently in its second consecutive week at #1 on CBC Music’s Top 20 chart. Listen to songs from Watin in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos on Aysanabee’s new Apple Music Home Session HERE, and watch Aysanabee perform for the first time with a full band courtesy of CBC Music’s The Intro HERE.
Named for his grandfather, Aysanabee’s debut album combines powerful artistic expression with a journalistic approach; the concept for the album began as a series of interviews between grandson and grandfather over the first year of the pandemic. Watin is a work of renewal, gathering the fragments of language, family and memory as an immense and intimate work of rebuilding.

Aysanabee’s voice introduces himself in a way that words cannot. Solemn and soaring, backed by a swirling blend of indie, soul and electronic soundscapes, mournful saxophone and pulse-quickening finger-picking, Aysanabee’s striking sound is equal parts hypnotic and melodic.
The Toronto-based songwriter made his entrance in 2021 with the jaw-dropping song “Ocean Breath.” The self-produced, self-released single quickly found a home with Ishkōdé Records, where Aysanabee became the new label’s first signing. In a whirlwind year, Aysanabee performed on major stages across the country, opened for Half Moon Run and July Talk, launched and curated an emerging Indigenous artist series in Toronto, and is releasing his debut album, ‘Watin’ in November 2022. Aysanabee is Oji-Cree, Sucker Clan of the Sandy Lake First Nation.
