BING MAKES CHART HISTORY – BACK IN TOP 10 AFTER 40 YEARS
BRAND NEW ORCHESTRAL BING CROSBY ALBUM FLYING UP UK CHARTS FOR CHRISTMAS
BING AT CHRISTMAS FEATURING THE WORLD’S BIGGEST-SELLING SINGLE OF ALL TIME "WHITE CHRISTMAS"
29 NOVEMBER 2019 (TORONTO, ON) - Today, the brand new orchestral album from Bing Crosby, accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra, makes UK chart history by appearing in the Top 10 of the UK Official Albums Chart. This is the first time the legendary singer has been back in the albums chart for over 40 years. The last time Bing entered the Top 10 was 1977, the year he died.
This new release, entitled Bing At Christmas, is proving to be the Christmas album to own this year. Today at No.9, the record is flying up the UK charts in time for the festive holiday, taking with it the world’s biggest selling single of all time, "White Christmas", which is included on the record. The beloved track hit headlines last month for, unbelievably, never having reached the top of the UK charts, but with today’s album position, this could change. With sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide and, more recently, achieving over 1.8 billion streams (and an average of 18 million streams on 25th December alone every year) this song proves to be essential Christmas listening nearly 80 years since its original release.
Bing At Christmas gives the public the chance to hear the most popular Christmas tracks of all time totally transformed. With today’s technical advances, Bing’s utterly distinctive original vocals are set to newly-recorded orchestral arrangements, performed by the UK’s most prestigious orchestra, resulting in a richly-layered sound and clarity that sets it apart from past Bing Crosby releases.
Bing’s daughter Mary Crosby, speaking from her home in California, was delighted to hear the news of her father’s UK chart success today: "Our family is thrilled that yet another generation has embraced dad's music with this wonderful album"
Bing at Christmas with Bing Crosby & The London Symphony Orchestra is out now on Decca Records/Universal Music Canada, the country's leading music company.
