01 OCTOBER 2021 (TORONTO, ON) – Following the recent announcement of her upcoming sophomore album, Platinum Certified singer, songwriter, and producer Chelsea Cutler gifts fans with her latest single, “Devil On My Shoulder,” today—listen HERE.
The stunning song paints an intimate portrait of mental health, as Chelsea vulnerably sings about her struggle with depression, which is personified in the track’s title. Her voices echoes with raw emotion as she pleads, “Help me, I’m still waiting for someone to tell me, this won’t last forever but it’s hell for me, just to remind myself I’m supposed to breathe...”
On “Devil On My Shoulder,” Chelsea says, “To be able to be in a better place emotionally, I had to get to a place where I could make the distinction between me and my depression. For a long time, I conflated the two and believed my depression was a fundamental part of my identity. I don’t feel that way anymore. I know what my identity is and what my personality is. I also recognize the way that my depression works – as an external force – against all the best things about me. For lack of a better description, my depression is like the devil on my shoulder, whispering things to me that aren’t true, encouraging me to feel emotions based on cognitive distortions, obstructing my motivation and confidence. Being able to see my depression as a separate entity has been liberating for me.”
She continues, “A lot of processing took place for me while writing this song. It has easily taken the place of my favorite on the album, and I hope that it helps others realize the things it helped me realize.”
Chelsea’s new album, When I Close My Eyes, will be released on October 15th—pre-save it now HERE. When I Close My Eyes also features her recently released singles, “Calling All Angels” feat. Quinn XCII, “You Can Have It,” and “Walking Away,” Together, the songs have amassed over 12 million combined Spotify streams to date and been praised by Entertainment Tonight, COMPLEX, UPROXX, Consequence, HYPEBAE, Ones To Watch, and many more.
