17 May 2019 (Toronto, ON) – Icelandic composer, producer and innovator Ólafur Arnalds is offering fans a window into his musical world as he becomes the latest artist ambassador to curate the Peaceful Music playlist on Apple Music. It is accompanied by a mini-documentary video in which Ólafur talks about his upbringing and his earliest musical inspirations.

Peaceful Music is a living, breathing collection of contemporary and contemplative music, specially curated by today’s leading composers and superstar artists of the genre. When it launched nine months ago, it became the first playlist brand to be co-created by Universal Music Group in conjunction with Apple Music and artist ambassadors. The playlist has already proved to be a hit with millions of streams.

Ólafur Arnalds says: “My choice of music for this playlist aims to take the listener on a journey through different musical landscapes, whilst maintaining a sense of tranquility. It also gives me a chance to share new music that I love with people everywhere.”

Ólafur’s selection of tracks draws on his musical influences and features a variety of artists, from Aphex Twin and Radiohead to Nils Frahm and Lambert, as well as his own electronic duo Kiasmos. His track choices are interspersed with some pieces from his own back catalogue as well as his current album, re:member – described as “sophisticated, explorative, and humane” by The Line of Best Fit.

Released last year on Mercury KX/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, re:member features Ólafur’s ground-breaking new software, Stratus, which transforms the piano into a unique new instrument. The Stratus Pianos are two self-playing, semi-generative player pianos and the centrepiece of Ólafur’s new compositions.

Ólafur has been touring around the world with the Stratus Pianos – he performed over 70 shows in 2018, with the number set to rise to 110 this year. He has wowed audiences in the US and Europe, including sold-out concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House. He is set to perform at a string of festivals this summer and he’ll also be unveiling a series of new remixes in the coming months.
