08 OCTOBER 2021 (TORONTO, ON) – Fresh off his explosive performance at Osheaga last weekend (praised by Exclaim - “Zoya's ceiling is high and this performance shows he's capable of commanding a crowd” and RANGE Magazine - “he rapped and sang with style and confidence”), singer/songwriter/rapper Zach Zoya shares his brand-new single “Start Over” featuring Benny Adam today via 7ième Ciel/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.

Produced by fellow Montréal creatives Billboard (Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, Ne-Yo), Ruffsound and Benny Adam, the third single from Zach Zoya’s upcoming sophomore EP combines the dynamic energy of the eclectic Montréal sound with Zoya’s signature swift bars and melodic, soaring choruses.

“Up to that point, songwriting had been a very solitary experience for me. It was about locking in by myself and painstakingly writing a story line by line. Having Benny, Ruffsound and Billboard all in the room with me, it became a collaborative effort that I found very refreshing - I got to write as the melodies were being built which forced me to innovate and flow in a different way. Making the songwriting process a conversation as opposed to a monologue is so much more fun.” reflects Zoya. “The day that ‘Start Over’ was written was one of my first sessions working with other songwriters,”

Also out today is the “Start Over (Acoustic Version)” Live @ Atelier New Regime performance video. United in their shared conviction for creativity, freedom and passion, Zach Zoya and Montréal streetwear label Atelier New Regime paired up for a series of live performance videos filmed in the brand’s flagship boutique. Zach Zoya’s smooth, soulful vocals were recognized last month when he was invited to take the stage at the renowned Montréal International Jazz Festival for a special Marvin Gaye tribute concert celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the iconic album What’s Going On. Alongside an orchestra led by Montréal trombonist Modibo Keita, Zoya and other guest vocalists performed the album in Keita’s arrangements, inspired by Marvin Gaye’s live performance of the album at the Kennedy Center.

The recognition of Zach Zoya’s versatile talent continues. In addition to the international critical acclaim he’s received over the past year, Zoya has now been given one of the highest honours an artist can be awarded in Québec with his first ADISQ nomination. The 23-year-old has been nominated for the International Collaboration of the Year Award for “Patience” featuring UK artist Angel - the Boi-1da, Matthew Burnett and Don Mills produced fourth single from Zoya’s 2020 debut EP Spectrum.

Labelled “one of the most versatile young artists coming out of Montréal” by HotNewHipHop and praised for his “effortless vocal delivery” and “endless stamina” by EARMILK, Zach Zoya’s artistry and talent - both on stages and in studios - has solidified him in hip-hop and R&B spheres at home and abroad. With the releases of “Start Over”, “Understand” and “Feelings”, Zoya has fans energized and eager for the release of his upcoming sophomore EP, due out in 2022.

About Zach Zoya:

Growing up in the small, largely French-speaking city of Rouyn-Noranda northwest of Montréal, Zach Zoya developed a diverse musical palate from his family. Introduced to African music by his South African father who fled to Canada during apartheid, and North American soul and pop music by his French-Canadian mother, Zoya was immersed in rhythms and melodies that spoke to him even when the English lyrics didn’t. Though French was both Zoya’s first language and the one more established in the Montréal music scene, he’s rapped in English from the start of his career. Raised without a computer or television in a place with minimal hip-hop culture, Zoya first honed his flows by covering records by Kendrick Lamar and Drake, and credits learning the skill of rapping with improving his delivery as an all-around vocalist. After establishing himself in the Montréal music scene by gaining the support of 7ième Ciel, a powerhouse label in French rap, collaborating with platinum producer High Klassified (Future, The Weeknd), Zoya partnered with Universal Music Canada and began releasing songs that showcased his signature blend of melodic hip-hop and emotive R&B. For his debut solo EP Spectrum, released in October of 2020, Zoya collaborated with heavy hitting Toronto producers: GRAMMY Award winner Boi-1da, JUNO Award winner Matthew Burnett, and Multi-Platinum selling producer Don Mills, as well as UK artist, songwriter and producer Angel (Frank Ocean, Moneybagg Yo, Stefflon Don), and Montréal producers Bougo and DTRWRK. Showcasing the versatility of Zach Zoya’s artistry as a songwriter, singer and rapper, Spectrum earned critical acclaim from established culture outlets such as Rolling Stone France, The Travis Mills Show on Apple Music, ELLE Canada, HotNewHipHop, Complex, EARMILK and Wonderland Magazine and landed Zach on HipHopDX’s “Best R&B Songs of 2020”, Complex’s “10 Best Canadian Songs of the Month”, and Okayplayer’s “10 Montréal R&B Singers You Should Be Checking For” lists. With the rare combination of versatile talent, charisma, and perspective, 23-year-old Zach Zoya is poised to be the next Canadian star to build a worldwide following.
