Leith Ross is a songwriter, singer, and artist born and raised in a small town outside of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. They’ve been a sensitive and overly artistic person since birth, and when they started writing songs around the age of 12, it quickly became Leith’s favourite way to be sensitive and overly artistic. And to this day, it still is.
Leith is inspired by the likes of Lucinda Williams, Dolly Parton, Disney movie soundtracks, High School Musical, and their dad’s horrible parodies of all of the above. Their songs attempt to explore themes of gut-wrenching and cheesy love, silliness, and extreme existentialism—their favourite stuff. Leith’s debut album To Learn is soaked in that ‘favourite stuff’ and, as of today, is yours to keep. The cover artwork collage, along with all their lyric videos and music videos, are made with love and care by Leith themselves.
“This debut record o’ mine was written during a couple of major changes in my life,” recalls Leith. “It’s about going through big transitions. Moving, losing, and making friends, deep hurt and betrayal, real and steadfast love, and the years in which I felt like I was truly growing up and becoming something different. Mostly it’s about learning. About myself, about the world, about people, about love. The kind of love I want to foster and nurture until my dying day. To live is to learn and to learn is the best. At least that’s the gist of it.”
Last night, Leith played a sold out show in Vancouver—the first stop on their first ever tour, fittingly titled “The First Leith Ross Tour Ever.” Over the next month, Leith will be playing shows across Canada and the United States, making stops in Ottawa and Toronto before ending the run with back to back nights in Winnipeg in mid-June.
